              Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA)
    The People's Liberation Army is a people's army founded and led by the Communist Party of China with the sacred duty of safeguarding China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and guarding against external aggression.
    Founded on August 1, 1927, PLA experienced the stages of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Revolutionary Army, the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army, the Eighth Route Army and the New Fourth Army, and adopted the present name in October 1946. It participated in the Agrarian Revolutionary War (1927-1937), the Anti-Japanese War (1937-1945) and the Liberation War (1945-1949).
    Since the founding of New China in 1949, the PLA has developed from the single ground force into composite armed forces, including the navy, air force and technical arms equipped with advanced weapons.
